What is Technology Transfer?

Technology transfer, or “tech transfer” is the process of applying academic research for public use and make it a viable product or service.

It is the field that moves government funded research through the steps needed to transition it from theory, to commercialization. Tech transfer tends to be a long-term process, as marketable research takes time to get funded, conducted, and then may require patents, granting of the use of those patents to companies through licensing, or the creation of start-up companies.
